How long? Goes with my other Q?
CitizenShy asked:
How long (min-max) can you be held against your will in a psychiatric hospital? I have been before, but I honestly don’t remember a damn date about it. It was post- ******* attempt, and i basically just laid in a bed and talked to a bunch of shinks until I could walk, and then I went home to 24hr surveillance.

How long can they hold me? See my last question for details if it makes a difference.

It depends on what state you live in. If you don’t tell us what state, we can’t tell you.
A recent famous example, however, is Britney Spears – they could hold her at least 72 hours and I think up to 5 days.
Regardless, if you live in California, it’ll be one thing, if you live in North Dakota, it’ll be another set of rules. You could call your police department (don’t use the emergency line) and ask them.

I’m not sure where you live but where I live if you are under 18 you can be held for a period of one week and then you will be reassessed and released so long as you are deemed not to be harmful to yourself or anybody else. If you are over 18 you can’t be held against your will unless it is enforced by the judicial system. You will always be able to check your self out of a facility but you may be required to stay for as long as it takes them to assess you…usually 2 days or less. Hope I helped.
