I’m a very paranoid person about my belongings not being stolen.
Guy who’s not afraid to ask asked:
Now I’m in deep research for finding a home security system for my brand new home. I pretty much live alone, and on a very strict budget with my mortgage payments.

Should I pay the dough to have ADT install my security system, or would it make any difference to go with these local small business security companies?

Shop around. Some of the local places install the same equipment that ADT does. That being said, you get the knowledge of an experienced company doing the install with ADT. With the local ones, you would have to check references they provide.

Those security serevices are a waste of money. They rarely stop any theft. Most guys can get by them in 15 seconds.

I would say shop around, if you are renting your home you may want to have a system that can be portable.
If you own, consider a more permanent system with easy upgrades.
Larger companies such as ADT do have a reputation for excellence but that doesn’t mean smaller companies aren’t as good. Also, Defense Shield is a pretty good one.
Personally, my home defense system is a dog and my secondary system is a 9mm Smith and Wesson.

The ‘local’ company may actually be selling ADT equipment and monitoring. That said, NO alarm can actually protect your property. At best, it can reduce the time the thief has to take it before the police arrive. Homeowners insurance is the best protection for your ’stuff’. It can ALL be replaced.
