Interested in a DIY home security system w/ internet & cell capability, don’t want mo. monitoring-any advice?

a recent incident has brought to my attention the need for a security system –don’t need a pro system nor monthly monitoring fees just need to be alerted in case of intruder downstairs. Plan to add an outdoor surveillance system also. Need to cover 10 windows & 2 doors and would like internet and cell capabilities. Need a good quality unit at a reasonable price–doesn’t have to be fancy or highest tech–dependability & functionality are priorities. Also if you know of a good lowlight , outdoor 2-4 camera system /PC capabilities I need that as well. Any advice and recommendations are welcome! Thanks!

Every Camera You Need to Get Started

This is not the best quality in the world, but you can put together quite a system with the parts from this site.

I have used the cameras and the security hardware, and it has worked the two times it needed to . The wireless detector feature was important to me, as I could not get hard wire lines to several of the doors and windows I wanted protected, and these allow for coverage, without wires back to the main unit.

I also like the fact it can interface with lamp controls and alarm sirens. This allows the system to turn on lights all over the house when triggered. This will scare off most intruders.

You can also set up the computer interface for the cameras to monitor what they are seeing, and to record the images if you desire. May allow the police to catch the intruder later, even if they escape at first.

You may have to go to a different source to get cell phone device to send a signal, but the dialer on the main security unit will call your cell with a prerecorded message if it has a live phone line.
