Safe to leave computer on 24/7 for 14 days? AMD or Intel?

3

Jeff G asked:

Hi, I want to leave my desktop running 24/7 for 14 days (for webcam for home surveillance, motion detection, and the like) and was wondering if anyone has done this, without blowing a CPU or harming the mainboard. Some say AMD chips run hotter, but the newer AMD chips are ok. Some say Intel chips are the way to go, because they can run 24/7 safely. But – is it safe to run it for 14 DAYS? Let me know guys. Please – thanks – best of luck.

Yeah, I keep mine on for a month at a time, runs with AMD, if you are still afraid anyway you can just buy an industrial fan, something powerfull, but it should be fine unless you have a busted fan.

I’ve left mine on for far longer. My powerbook had more than 365 days uptime before I finally ran some updates and restarted.

    ya its fine.

if you can give it the occasional reboot thats probably not a bad idea, just in terms of maintenance tasks the os performs on itself, but 14 days is hardly an eternity.
