Security System Equipment Question- Please Help?
Hi!
I am a small female student who lives alone. I am terrified to go to sleep at night. I decided to contact ADT and have them come look at my home to set up a security system. They quoted me $2,245 install plus $27/month. I can’t afford this! I am researching security systems and see you can purchase them much cheaper, however I don’t know what to look for.
This is what I need:
20 wireless door/window sensors
1 window protector (non sliding/opening)
3 motion sensors
1 control panel
1 remote key
The house I live in has a lot of windows, I’m looking to protect all of the windows during the day, however activate the motion sensors at night as well- as the window protectors only work if the door is being slid open!
I would really appreciate all advice. I can afford the monthly fee however the start up cost is not affordable for me.
Thank You so much for reading!
I am also wanting it to connect to a home security carrier (ie ADT) for police monitoring. We have had break ins in my neighborhood and I want to be sure if something should happen it goes to the police!

Great Deals on Whole House Security Systems
ADT has many deals to install a system for you for “free”, provided you buy the monitor system.
I doubt they will cover 20 windows, but start with all the doors and a few windows and a couple of motion sensors and you should be OK.
Sometimes, even the ADT sign in the door is good enough.

The window sensors provide a faster response, but you still get an alert with just the motion sensors. I’d consider window sensors on your bedroom windows (and any attached bath) and use motion sensors for the rest of the house. That should cut down your installation costs quite a bit. You should also evaluate your other doors and windows on a case-by-case basis — there might be one or two where it would make a lot of sense to keep a sensor on it. If you are concerned about night intruders, a deadbolt or bar on your (solid, not hollow) bedroom door can slow them down until the police show up (remember, the motion detectors would have already been tripped by the time they get to your bedroom door).
Did you talk to ADT about the finances? Many firms offer to reduce or spread out the cost if you sign up for a long-term contract. If ADT won’t do it, try another…
Most police departments offer free home security audits. Consider having them come out and let them tell you what you can do that will deter the local crime wave. Remember, all you need to do is to make it more difficult than your neighbors — not as difficult as Fort Knox — to have the crooks go somewhere else. Small, relatively inexpensive, changes can make your home much safer and the crooks will move on to easier pickings.
Many community organizations regularly offer self-defense classes; you should consider attending a session to gain confidence about how to deal with potential attackers. The techniques are usually simple and effective enough to allow you to get away and report the crime. It should also help your state of mind, since you’d have more confidence to deal with the unknown.

Hello
I understand completely where you’re coming from, the total cost can get out of control for home security. A great company I’ve worked with is DoItYourselfSecuritySystems.com Everything they offer is high-quality Honeywell equipment, but they sell it at really amazing prices as there is no installation fee. It’s all designed for self-installation, but there’s plenty of resources on their site, and free professional telephone assistance, should you need any help along the way.
They also work with you from the beginning to be sure you are getting all the proper equipment to fit your space, needs and budget. If you have any questions about customizing a system, you can reach them at 1-866-587-0260. Or just head over to their site and have a look. Additionally, they have very affordable monitoring options. Hope this helps!
