Security system recommendations while living in an apartment. I don’t trust the other tenants?

1

hitomi k asked:

I’m moving with two other friends into a 3 bedroom apartment. There are security cameras installed, but they look very outdated. My friends and i will be moving with quite a number of expensive items. There are some tenants we’ve seen that we just don’t trust. We just want to feel safer leaving our things at home.
Any suggestions?

We don’t want to get a dog, and i know we can always buy some stickers but i’m also worried that that’ll only DRAW attention to us.

I live in Ontario, Canada.

See if your landlord will install another lock. Don’t say anything about the sketchy tenants–just that you’re concerned about safety, being that your unit is full of females. If your windows can be reached from outside, put a rod in them to keep them secure when shut (if they’re the sliding type). Also, get renter’s insurance if you can. It’s cheap (at least down here it is) and definitely provides piece of mind.
