Is legal for a hospital to have no surgeons on call?

4

:) asked:

This is the deal: family member went to the hospital with a blow out finger (broken bone and everything) they rapped it up and send him home saying that was no surgeon on call to came back tomorrow (Baptist hospital said that he could loose his finger tip…. due to the gravity of the injury) came back next day and went to the surgeon office (Baptist told him) since he has no insurance the surgeon WILL NOT make surgery without $4000 down at least… Is it legal to put someone’s finger in jeopardy because of money??? Now he has to hurry to find the money or the skin on his finger will die and loose it for sure… WHY IS THE MEDICAL FIELD SO SUC%^&%k up???? They are supposed to help people out…. they only care about money!!!! Then here we go spending thousand of millions of dollars in some other country medical and security and here at home WE ARE LOOSING FINGERS!!!!!

ahh, Sad but true. I know how frustrating that is, but if they gave him minimum treatment to prevent anything life threatening than they are within legal boundries.

He might want to consider going to your states charity hospital where that won’t be the case and they will treat him immediately.

That is one thing I like about living in the UK, free health care although we do get taxed quite a bit more than you it is definately worth it when you need it. Unfortunately you should have had insurance and you will now just have to come up with the cash

It is legal for a hospital not to even have a surgerical suite. Or even a surgeon. Some hospitals are too small. Yes, it is legal for the surgeon to be a jerk. He should have referred him to a state federally funded clinic/hospital such as west virginia university or Ohio State University or Kentucky State University etc… Any hospital that teaches doctors how to be doctors will fix him. They will also set him up for a medical card to cover the expenses. So, there is help out there, ask for it in a rational manner and listen closely. Check at the nearest university hospital and show up in the ER. THEY are regulated to treat all. With or without insurance. There is even medication assistance programs in doctors office to get medicaitons for free. Just sign up.
